Courtyard Dayton North Hotel Review
Coming from a military family, I am no stranger to hotel stays. I learned a long time ago that it’s important to choose a chain and stick with it. Of course, have a back-up but when you choose one chain, you always know what you’re going to get.
Many years ago, I chose the Courtyard Marriott. The hotel is typically the same no matter where you go. I always know what to expect. There may be minor variations but for the most part, I know I’ll get a clean hotel that is comfortable – SANS bed bugs!
Donna’s adventure has again ended up in Dayton, Ohio.
This time it’s for my daughter’s 17th birthday celebration. Our primary goal, besides having fun, is to play video games at Scene 75. A night in a hotel is always part of a relaxing adventure.
Courtyard Dayton North is a nice but dated hotel. When we first pulled in I thought I’d made a mistake. The exterior could use a facelift. Upon entering I was relieved to see an updated check-in. The lobby is small but comfortable. It is open to the Bistro. The bistro is modern and offers an assortment of goodies.
Someone was there to greet us right away. We checked in a bit early. It was painless and quick.
We got a room on the second floor. I’m sad to report that although the lobby and bistro were nice and new, the elevator was in a sad state. The flooring was dated, and it had an industrial smell.
Courtyard Dayton North has a pool, hot tub, and workout room. The pool is small but enough to allow young children to have playtime after being stuck in a car all day. Please supervise children as there is no lifeguard on duty. The workout room is also small but a treadmill or elliptical is all that you need to get the blood flowing. Dumbbell weights and a yoga ball are also available. Overall, the area is just fine for a weekend stay or even if you are there a week.
Our room was clean, spacious, and perfect for the two of us. It was equipped with two queen beds, extra fluffy pillows, a TV, coffee pot, and mini fridge. Sorry, no microwave. The bathroom offered a standard set up. It wasn’t anything special but was clean and roomy. Tiny little shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, and lotion were free for us to use.
Our room didn’t exactly have a view to remember – unless you call another roofline a view to remember. The view didn’t matter as it was not our goal to sit in the room and look out the window. I would stay again because the room was clean and stank-free.
Customer service was excellent at Courtyard Dayton North. I interacted with three employees. First at check-in (same employee checked-us out), second when buying a cup of tea at the bistro, and the third interaction was at 5 am. The employee at the bistro was polite and funny. She needed help with pricing and did not hesitate to ask a superior for help. I see that as a positive.
At 5 am I went downstairs looking for coffee and a place to write. The employee that greeted me was Vanessa Montgomery. She had a smile on her face and was accommodating. When I asked for coffee, she went and got it. We talked extensively. She is a great employee with excellent customer service skills. She has the drive to be better at her job, as a mom, and at life. I hope Vanessa gets a raise and a promotion.
While updated and comfortable, it is not someplace where I could eat. They have an updated menu but do not offer gluten-free selections. Guests can order breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Sandwiches and salads are also on the menu. Beverages include soft drinks, juice, and alcohol. Prices are high so plan accordingly. If you choose to dine and drink elsewhere, please as the front desk attendant will order a cab. Don’t drink and drive.
My Overall Impression
I am happy with Dayton North Courtyard. I would stay there again if I’m in the area. Customer service will make me want to come back. I know what I’m getting. The location is great with lots to eat, drink, and shop. I recommend this hotel if you are going to be in Dayton.
