Thanksgiving Day

What I’m thankful for today.

Many families have the tradition of going around the table and giving thanks for one thing. Many talk about family, jobs, and health. For those things, I am grateful.

Today, I want to give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus for all that He has done for me. What I cannot see is immeasurable – what I see is speculative. What I know is that Jesus is my Savior. He is the Savior of the world.

Jesus has changed my life for the better. Before I met Him, I was broken and alone. I was a sinner neck deep in sin. Jesus took me out of that mess. He revealed Himself to me. I accepted His invitation and moved on to a new life in Christ.

How I got from here to there is a long story best left up to another day.

I am thankful for His grace and mercy. When I make a mistake, He is there. I beat myself up. I think that I’m a failure. However, the Word says:

Psalm 73:26 ESV, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Thanksgiving for me is about giving Jesus the glory for the things I have in my life like a job. I was a stay at home mom for 19 years. It took a lot of praying to realize that I have marketable skills. The skill that I have is also a spiritual gift. Teaching. I am a teacher and I love it!

Thanks be to God

Today I give Jesus thanks for protecting me during life’s storms. When I’m alone, crying, and desperate, He reaches out to me and pulls me into His arms. Jesus has protected me from more storms than I even realize. When my husband died my world came crashing down. In my vivid imagination, I see Jesus as a superhero who puts a forcefield around me.

I give thanks to Jesus for my house. It allows me to keep a roof over my children’s head. It is a small house with a mortgage lower than the rent in my old apartment. I closed on this house within one day of the bank declining my loan. That’s another long story but nevertheless, my ownership of this home is a miracle.

Today I not only give thanks for my family, friends, and finances but I give glory to Jesus for what He has done for me. He is my light and my salvation.

  • When all hope is lost – He is my comforter
  • In loneliness – He holds me
  • If I’m lost – He points the way
  • When I screw up – He doesn’t hold it against me
  • If I need help – He rescues me
  • When I have no one to talk to – He listens
  • Those times when I’m in need – He provides

This Thanksgiving Day I give thanks to Jesus Christ for all the great things He has done for me.
